Work > Kinetic Sculpture

I’m fascinated with mechanical movement, its patterns and sounds, the simple machines that drive it. My kinetic sculptures are minimalist forms in motion, choreographed by chance, the physics of chaos, or the whims of the viewer.

My goal is art-as-playground, art-as-toy. A sky full of passing clouds invites our imaginations. Children playing with a stick see a horse, a sword, a guitar. (Children are my best critics.)

I’m influenced by Japanese design, absorbed in childhood summers with my mother’s family in Tokyo. The values that inform this aesthetic—the appreciation of simple functional forms, and of the material itself – are important to me. I hope my work encourages them.
