Urban Mechanisms of Wish Fulfillment > Wish Stories

We spent the day calling out "Free Wishes" in our blue industrial uniforms. Sadly, we were unable to convince some passers-by that we were offering them something completely free, no strings attached. Some reacted as if we were begging for money. A few made remarks that were openly hostile:
"I don't need wishes, I work for the things I want."
"I wish the Mexicans would go home." (This comment created an ethical dilemma-- we were determined to paint whatever people wished for, but this was NOT what we expected. After some debate, I decided I didn't want to put hate speech on my public art).

The experience made us appreciate those who did participate. Many lingered for a long time, watching others' reactions. One woman sympathized with our experience and painted this wish.
